Effective and creative expression of ideas is central not only to a liberal arts education but also to effective citizenship in a democracy. Human communication and theatre are among the oldest disciplines of study in Western civilization, and the study of either gives the student an opportunity to understand, to assess, and to perform the essential human activity of self expression.

The department of human communication and theatre at Trinity University is a single administrative unit with two complementary but relatively independent academic programs, each with its own major and minor. Students following each track learn theory through a well-balanced curriculum and have chances to apply what they learn through participation in theatre performances, forensics competitions, and academic conferences.
