TLEARN

TLEARN (Trinity Learning Environment And Repository Network ) is the system that Trinity will be implementing in place of Blackboard. TLEARN is powered by Moodle, an open source course management system (like Blackboard) "designed using sound pedagogical principles, to help educators create effective online learning communities." In fact, the design and development of Moodle is guided by a particular philosophy of learning, a way of thinking that you may see referred to in shorthand as "social constructionist pedagogy".

TLEARN's Web-interface enables you to easily and quickly set up interactive learning spaces without prior knowledge in Web site design or HTML. Specifically, you can:

  • Extend learning opportunities beyond class time by disseminating course content digitally in a variety of formats (text, PDF and spreadsheet documents, presentations, and multimedia) for preparation and review.
  • Connect with students via email, and news and discussion forums.
  • Assess student learning with assessments and quizzes, and electronic submission of assignments.
  • Expand learning environments with links to websites and online library resources such as journals and databases.
  • Create opportunities for peer interaction and collaboration using discussion forums, collaborative work on wikis and peer-reviewed assignments.
  • Manage class logistics via the calendar, QuickMail, Scheduler, or News forum (for announcements).
  • Login and course request instructions are provided below. for information on adding content, customizing the interface, and using the other features available in TLEARN, please refer to the help tutorials.

    Logging In

We recommend using Mozilla Firefox as the primary browser when working with TLEARN rather than Internet Explorer, Safari, or other alternatives. If you don't have Firefox, but have admin rights to your computer, you can download and install Firefox. If you don't have admin rights to your computer, you can request the Helpdesk to install it for you.

You can access TLEARN in one of two ways:

  • Directly at http://tlearn.trinity.edu/ Click on the Login button, and enter your Trinity user name and password.
  • From Tiger's Lair: If you have logged into Tiger's Lair, you can access your TLEARN courses by clicking on the Courses tab, and then on the TLEARN image.
  • When you log-in, you will see a primary page with your courses on the left in the "My courses" box, and a central area titled "Site News. This area will be used to keep you updated on developments with TLEARN, as well as provide links to resources and other information. To access your course at any time, simply click on its name in the "My courses" box on the left.
