Snapshot of the Class of 2016


Trinity University's incoming first-year students are already auto racers and bankers


SAN ANTONIO - In the middle of August, more than 600 students will arrive at Trinity University ready to become the Class of 2016.

As of July 27, the incoming class is expected to have 615 first-year students and 26 transfer students from other institutions of higher learning. They will come from 33 states and 33 countries. More than 38 percent are under-represented students, and they are equally gender balanced (50:50) male and female.

Among the incoming class is a roller coaster enthusiast, a student fluent in Swedish, and a marine geology researcher who has worked in Newfoundland and Belize.

Here are some other accomplishments of members of the Class of 2016:  

  • Translator and surgery assistant for "Operation Smile Mexico, A.C." where doctors perform free reconstructive surgeries for children and adults with a cleft lip or cleft palate
  • Cancer survivor who is now involved with Relay For Life
  • Designer of an iPhone App (No Addiction to My iPhone) to help users beat iPhone addiction
  • Intern at the Central Bank of Guinea
  • Participant in a NASA student team to design and fabricate equipment for astronaut training
  • Captain of the national sporting clay U.S. Team for women
  • Auto racer who had a perfect season in 2011

The Class of 2016 will arrive on the Trinity campus for New Student Orientation on Thursday, Aug. 16.
