Ozone Pollution is the Subject of Trinity University Presentation
Tension between air quality and population management is the focus of speaker's talk
SAN ANTONIO -The tension between maintaining air quality while population soars will be explored by Peter Bella, director of the Natural Resources Department of the Alamo Area Council of Governments (AACOG), in a talk at Trinity University at 4 p.m. Tuesday, Jan. 24, in Room 126 of the Chapman Center.
Bella will discuss "Air Pollution in an Increasingly Crowded and Complex World," in which he will present the technical aspects of ozone compliance and management issues. The talk is free and open to the public.
The San Antonio region is expected to grow in population by more than 40 percent between 2010 and 2040. To manage local environmental challenges responsibly, leaders and stakeholders are striving to balance increasingly stringent federal air quality standards with the effects of both population growth and the development of the new Eagle Ford shale development, all at a time when the region is on the brink of failing to comply with existing federal clean air standards.
The presentation is sponsored by Trinity's department of physics and astronomy. For more information, contact Professor Gene Clark at 210-999-7504 or eclark@trinity.edu.
