Manual Setup Instructions

If you are unable to connect to TUSecure using help.its.trinity.edu/wireless, follow these instructions based on your operating system:

Introduction to PEAP

In order to access TUSecure, users must have a wireless card that supports the following:

PEAP authentication (EAP-MSCHAPv2) and WPA/WPA2 with TKIP or AES-CCMP.

Protected Extensible Authentication Protocol, Protected EAP, or simply PEAP (pronounced "peep"), is a method to securely transmit authentication information, including passwords, over wired or wireless networks. It was jointly developed by Cisco Systems, Microsoft, and RSA Security. It is already widely available in products, and provides very good security. Note that PEAP is not an encryption protocol; as with other EAP types it only authenticates a client into a network.

PEAP uses only server-side public key certificates to authenticate clients by creating an encryptedSSL/TLStunnel between the client and the authentication server, which protects the ensuing exchange of authentication information from casual inspection.

As of May of 2005, there were two PEAP sub-types certified for the updated WPA and WPA2 standard. They are:

  • PEAPv0/EAP-MSCHAPv2 and PEAPv1/EAP-GTC
