Assistant Professor of Computer Science

Trinity University is seeking applications for a tenure-track assistant professor position in Computer Science, to commence August 2012.

Candidates for this position must have a Ph.D. in Computer Science or a related area. Our new colleague will teach introductory and advanced courses in Computer Science, advise first-year students and Computer Science majors, and be willing to include undergraduate students in research activities. He/she will participate in ongoing development of the undergraduate Computer Science curriculum and will be active in research and professional activities. The teaching load is nine student contact hours (three courses) per semester.

Trinity University is an independent, coeducational, primarily residential university founded in 1869. Undergraduate enrollment is approximately 2400, including students from all areas of the United States and many foreign countries. Trinity has highly selective admission standards, and is rapidly moving toward its goal of becoming one of the nation's highest quality primarily undergraduate institutions. Our new colleague will be joining about 250 faculty members at an attractive residential campus overlooking downtown San Antonio, a city rich in heritage and ethnic diversity with a population of more than a million. Trinity's principal focus is on undergraduate education, though there are select Masters programs. And unlike a typical liberal arts and sciences institution, Trinity also has departments such as Business, Engineering, and Education, affording an interesting mix of students as well as opportunities for faculty collaboration. Also, Trinity's new Entrepreneurship program is housed in our Department. University priorities include the development of critical and creative thinking skills and excellence in written and spoken communication.

Perhaps unexpectedly, San Antonio has a particularly lively and vibrant computing community! Indeed, San Antonio is second in the nation (only to the Washington, D.C. area) in information assurance and cyber-security; and significantly due to San Antonio, Texas is second (only to California) in technology. Moreover, there are efforts underway by, e.g., the Greater Chamber of Commerce and the Mayor's Office to designate San Antonio as "Cyber City USA." So while the position is open to all areas in the discipline, a new colleague would find San Antonio to be a particularly good fit for interests in information assurance & security, bioinformatics, or cloud computing.

The Department, 42 years old, is well integrated into campus life. Our students are among the best in the University and secure excellent offers for jobs and graduate schools; some have founded successful companies. We participate in several interdisciplinary minors. Late in 2013 the Department is scheduled to move into the newly constructed Center for Science and Innovation, a large complex that will house all the STEM departments as well as Entrepreneurship. Additional information about Trinity University may be found at http://web.trinity.edu/. Some additional Computer Science Department information may be obtained at http://web.trinity.edu/x13585.xml

A candidate should send a letter of application; curriculum vitae; statement of teaching and research interests; names, addresses and telephone numbers of at least three references; and other materials of the candidate's choosing to
