Welcome to Trinity University! Life in our residence halls is one of the most exciting new experiences of college, and it can also be one of the most overwhelming. We're here to help! Check out our First Year Area Frequently Asked Questions to find out more about the residential experience at Trinity University or go to the First Year Move In Day page to learn about your first day on campus.
The first year area is comprised of seven buildings on the east side of campus, clustered together so all first year students can experience a vibrant and supportive community. These buildings include Beze, Calvert, Herndon, McLean, Miller, Winn and Witt. Residents live in small groups of about 18 with a Resident Mentor.
Your Resident Mentor: Resident Mentors (RMs) are carefully selected and extensively trained upper-class leaders (sophomores, juniors or seniors) who work as paraprofessionals on the Residential Life Staff. Their primary role is to support a small group of about 18 first year students, building a fun, healthy and respectful community among your neighbors. Your RM will guide you through New Student Orientation (NSO) all the way to the end of the year.
Throughout the fall semester, your RM will host fun activities to break from studying and get to know other students. Your Resident Mentor group will also discuss the ups and downs of college life: staying healthy, getting along with your roommate, doing well in college classes and making choices about relationships and alcohol.
Take time to get to know your RM. He or she will be one person you know you can trust to look out for your best interests and encourage you to take positive risks. RMs know you may make mistakes and sometimes have to hold you accountable to campus policy, but they will also help you learn from those experiences. Your first year is a time of significant independence from life at home. Your RM is there to help make Trinity feel like home, too.
