Classical Studies is a highly interdisciplinary program that brings together faculty from history, art history, anthropology, religion, gender studies, and philosophy to study the ancient Mediterranean world from numerous academic perspectives.

Whether a student wants to study the languages and cultures of ancient Greece and Rome, or their impact on contemporary society, Trinity's Classical Studies offers an ideal platform for students to explore their interests and gain a wide variety of experiences both in and outside the classroom.

Our courses range from Bronze Age archaeology to studies of classical "barbarians"; from ancient mythology to theories of myth and religion; from daily life in Greece and Rome to intensive examinations of the literature, art, and politics of this fascinating period.

The department offers majors and minors in Ancient Greek, Latin, Classical Languages, and Ancient Mediterranean Studies (the last of which does not have a language requirement). Additionally, students gain educational enrichment through internships, field trips, faculty interactions, events, and other student experiences.

The vast range of materials, courses and activities available in the department prepares graduates for a variety of professions. If your future career requires that you be able to think incisively about written documents and material records, to synthesize evidence across disciplines, and to express yourself effectively both orally and in writing, then you will not find a better or more enjoyable way to prepare yourself than Classical Studies.

If you have questions or comments about the program, please drop by and visit. We are located in Chapman Center, Suite 267.  You may also contact our senior secretary, Rose Cohen-Brown.

LENNOX LECTURE SERIES

The Classical Studies Department is privileged to be hosting the 2012 Lennox Seminar and Lecture Series, made possible by the Martha, David and Bagby Lennox Foundation.  The theme of the Seminar and Lecture Series is "Love and Desire in Antiquity," which ties in to a well-received traveling exhibit opening in September at the San Antonio Museum of Art entitled "Aphrodite and the Gods of Love."  The public lectures by world-renowned scholars are free and open to the public.  For more information, see Upcoming Events.
