SAN ANTONIO - Strains of mariachi music spiced up the celebratory feel of the Sept. 18 grand opening of an award-winning local Mexican food restaurant, Taco Taco Café on the campus of Trinity University.

The lunchtime event featured games, prizes, and free snacks as Trinity and its food service provider, ARAMARK, hailed the opening of an eatery lauded for serving "the best tacos in America." The new Taco Taco Café began dishing tacos at Trinity in August but held a ribbon cutting ceremony and dedication Wednesday, Sept. 18 in the facility's location in The Commons Food Court, inside the Coates University Center.

Students, faculty, staff, and campus visitors can now enjoy a variety of authentic Mexican cuisine including the brands' popular El Taco Norteño, puffy tacos, and award winning breakfast tacos.

"Over the years we have heard that students have frequently eaten at Taco Taco Café.  It was a collaborative effort to find the right option to bring the local Mexican favorite to campus. Taco Taco Café is a wonderful addition," said Miguel Ardid, food service director, ARAMARK/Trinity University Dining. "All of the ongoing enhancements we have made to the dining program were based on student feedback and will provide students with a dynamic dining experience."

For over a decade, Taco Taco Café has been a local favorite offering traditional Mexican cuisine. Their savory recipes are made with the freshest ingredients and are handcrafted by owner Helen Velesiotis. The restaurant has received numerous accolades from local and national publications. Voted "Best Tacos in America" by Bon Appetit on the Food Network, the brand has also been featured on Guy Fieri's show, "Diners, Drive-ins and Dives." Locally, Taco Taco Café has been voted as the "Best Breakfast Tacos" by the San Antonio Current, San Antonio Magazine, and WOAI.

"I'm really excited that ARAMARK and Trinity decided to bring a local business to campus rather than just giving us a national chain restaurant. Taco Taco Café has delicious Mexican food and it's something special we have that other universities don't," said Jordan Dougherty, a Trinity University sophomore.
