SAN ANTONIO - The Bengal Lancers fraternity and the Spurs sorority, suspended last spring for policy violations, have been reinstated following successful completion of their reinstatement plans.  The groups' student and alumni liaisons were notified today by Michael Fischer, vice president for Faculty and Student Affairs,  that their reinstatement plans had been accepted and they are returned to active status.

Earlier this week it was announced that the Gamma Chi Delta sorority and the Chi Delta Tau fraternity had been reinstated, as well.  Although reinstated, the four groups remain on probation for three years.

"The actives worked tirelessly to create a reinstatement plan that they will enthusiastically comply with, beginning today. We are confident that the actions of the members of Gamma Chi Delta, individually and as a sorority, will reflect our core values in fine fashion," said Nancy Hunnicutt Gunnin '94, member of the Gamma Chi Delta Alumnae Association.

For nearly a year, the two fraternities and two sororities, along with alumni liaisons, have worked diligently on a plan to re-examine their organizations' values and how their actions and activities reflect those values. The groups were working from a template that addressed scholarship, leadership, service, and camaraderie. Strong alumni involvement was cited as key to the successful outcome of the reinstatements.

Additionally, a "blueprint" designed to ensure long term success for all Trinity's fraternities and sororities will soon be complete. Alumni, members of the Board of Trustees, and administrators have worked throughout this year to develop a framework to enhance the sustainability of these campus groups, increase alumni involvement with the active members, and improve communication among the University, alumni, and Trinity's fraternities and sororities.
