Trinity University Announces Speakers and Events for Women’s History Month



Women's History MonthSAN ANTONIO - Trinity University is celebrating the experiences of U.S. Latinas and Latin American women during Women's History Month by hosting a variety of guests in February and March. The Women's History events are made possible by Ruth McLean Bowman Bowers and the Álvarez seminars are made possible with support from Carlos and Malú Álvarez. Feb. 11 - Aurora Guerrero, writer and director, will screen and disucss the film, Mosquita y Mari, at 7 p.m. in Northrup Hall Room 040.

Feb. 18 - The documentary, Invisible War, will be screened at 7 p.m. in the Coates University Center Fiesta Room.

Feb. 21 - Nelly Rosario, novelist, Texas State University, will present, "Returning Postcard to Sender: Living, Researching, and Writing Song of the Water Saints," as part of the Álvarez Seminar at 5:30 p.m. in Northrup Hall Room 040.

Feb. 28 - María Teresa "Mariposa" Fernández, poet and activist, will present, "De pura cepa: Writing My Way Into Being," as part of the Álvarez Seminar at 5:30 p.m. in CSI 437.

March 2 - Vagina Monologues will be held at 7:30 p.m. in the Coates University Center Fiesta Room.

March 5 - Miriam Jimenez and Juan Flores, New York University, will present, "Black, Latina, Both: Claiming and Making History," as part of the Álvarez Seminar at 5:30 p.m. in Northrup Hall Room 040.

March  6 - Josie Mendez Negrete will read from, "Latina Empowering Testimonies: Daughters Betrayed," at 7 p.m. at Barnes & Noble at Ingram Festival.

March  9 - A Women's Day March will be held. More information at http://www.sawomenwillmarch.org/.

March  20 - Josie Mixon, poet, will present, "Poetry as Therapy," at 6 p.m. at Barnes & Noble at Ingram Festival.

March  27 - Rosa-Linda Fregoso, 2013 Ruth McLean Bowman Bowers Visiting Scholar, will present, "Latina Filmmakers as Witnesses of History," at 5:30 p.m. in MPC 110.
