Trinity University to hold candlelight vigil for Transgender Day of Remembrance
SAN ANTONIO - Trinity University's Sexual Diversity Alliance will hold a Transgender Day of Remembrance candlelight vigil from 7 to 8 p.m. Sunday, Nov. 18 in the courtyard of the Parker Chapel, next to the Murchison Tower on the Trinity campus.
This event is being held to raise awareness, promote equality, and honor the memory of transgender individuals whose lives have been lost due to anti-transgender hatred or bias.
Those attending will hear remarks from several trans speakers, live music, and a short spiritual ceremony. On average, 213 trans people will be victims of hate crimes each year, with many incidents not being reported to law enforcement authorities.
Trinity's Sexual Diversity Alliance is a social educator and awareness organization that addresses all manifestations of sexuality and gender including issues concerning LGBTQ people and their straight allies.
