Other Operating Systems Network Setup

Trinity University ITS does not officially support any Operating Systems not listed on the main Student Resources page. However we do recognize that there are users who wish to use different operating systems, including GNU/Linux or other *NIX derivatives. We do not prevent or restrict students from using these OS's.

Any OS used by students must be able to connect to the network using DHCP, we do not allow students to have permanent IP's due to security and administration reasons. Students must be aware that they are responsible for the maintenance and security of their machines. Certain conditions will result in a machine being removed from the network.

These conditions include:

  • A machine which is configured incorrectly for the network or is running services which generate excessive traffic or interfere with network operation.
  • A machine whose security has been compromised and is conducting illegal activities or interfering with network operations on or off campus.
  • A machine which has been found to be conducting probes or DOS attacks against machines both on and/or off campus.
  • Other activities which interfere with the operation of other users machines and/or the network.

    • If a student experiences any problems we will endeavor to help them in any way we can. Our goal is to make sure that all students enjoy their stay at Trinity.

    We will investigate any claims of illegal activities. These incidents will be reported to the appropriate authorities, including state and federal law enforcement agencies.
