Trinity University Music Department Announces Fall Semester Events


A wide spectrum of concerts and other musical events will be presented on campus


SAN ANTONIO - The Trinity University music department will host a variety of events during the fall semester. Unless otherwise noted, all events are free and open to the public and will be held at 7:30 p.m. in the Ruth Taylor Recital Hall.

Sept. 11 - Carolyn True, piano, will present an arrangement of J.S. Bach's "Sheep May Safely Graze," Brahms' Variations on a Theme by Handel, and the Aaron Copland Sonata.

 Sept. 23 - Jeff Garza, French horn, will be accompanied by the horn section of the San Antonio Symphony Orchestra at 3 p.m. for a recital of solo works and horn ensemble pieces by composers including Mozart, Reicha, and Hindemith.

 Oct. 6 - Chia-wei Lee, baritone, will present a recital.

  Oct. 9 - SOLI Chamber Ensemble, Trinity's Ensemble in Residence, will present "Hot Off the Press." Tickets are $20 or free to Trinity faculty/staff/students with a Trinity ID.

  Oct. 14, 16-18, 20-21 - The San Antonio International Piano Competition returns to the Trinity campus. For tickets and more information, visit www.saipc.org.

 Oct. 23 - A fall Choral Concert with Gary Seighman conducting will take place in Parker Chapel.

  Oct. 29 - Trinity Symphony Orchestra Fall Concert, conducted by Ben Carlisle.

 Nov. 3 - Trinity Jazz Ensemble, conducted by Chris Magee.

 Nov. 11 - Trinity University Symphonic Wind Ensemble Fall Concert, conducted by James Worman at 3 p.m.

 Nov. 16-17 - Opera Workshop: Henry Purcell's Dido and Aeneas.

 Nov. 18 - Rosalind Phillips Vocal Competition for Trinity student singers at 3 p.m. Students will compete for a monetary award made in honor of the late Trinity voice teacher, Rosalind Phillips.

Nov. 30 - The Trinity University Christmas Concert will feature an evening of seasonal music by the Trinity choirs, symphony orchestra, symphonic wind ensemble, handbell ensemble, and jazz band performing in Laurie Auditorium.

 Dec. 2 - The Christmas Vespers Worship Service, featuring the Trinity Choirs, is scheduled for 6 p.m. in Parker Chapel.
