Trinity University's Class Marshal and Alumni Sponsor Chosen

Faculty, alumnus provide support, unity, and mentoring for the incoming class of 2016

SAN ANTONIO - Trinity University has named the Class Marshal and Alumni Sponsor for the incoming class of 2016. They are Kimberlyn Montford, associate professor of music, and Jim Boelens '76, a retired U.S. Army chaplain. The duo will frame the college experience for the class, offering to help students see where they are, where they have been, and where they are headed.

Montford is from Newark, N.J., and earned a Bachelor of Music from Westminster Choir College, a Master of Music from Northwestern University, and a doctorate from Rutgers University. She has directed orchestras, choirs, and bands in public schools in New Jersey and Washington. She teaches courses ranging from hip hop culture to operas of Verdi and Wagner. She spends time every other summer researching documents containing the musical activities of nuns which are housed in the archives of the Vatican. As Class Marshal, Montford will serve as a welcoming and personal representative of the faculty and advise the class on academic and personal matters.

Boelens recently retired from the U.S. Army following more than 24 years on active duty as a chaplain. He graduated from Trinity with a Bachelor of Arts in journalism and English. An ordained Presbyterian minister, Boelens earned his Master of Divinity degree from Princeton Theological Seminary and served congregations in Omaha, Nebraska, and Austin, Texas, prior to entering active duty with the Army. He now serves as a volunteer at the TSA Canine Breeding and Development Center working with Labrador retriever puppies. In his role as Alumni Sponsor, Boelens will present the image of a successful Trinity graduate, offering a consistent presence for students and serving as a resource for the San Antonio community and off-campus issues.
