Trinity University’s Maverick Lecture to Feature Robin B. Wright
Speaker to present “Rock the Casbah: Rage and Rebellion Across the Islamic World”
SAN ANTONIO - Robin B. Wright, reporter and author, will present, "Rock the Casbah: Rage and Rebellion Across the Islamic World" at 7:30 p.m. Thursday, April 19, in Laurie Auditorium. Her free public presentation is part of Trinity University's Maverick Lecture. Seating is on a first-come, first-seated basis; tickets or reservations are not required.
Wright has reported from more than 140 countries on six continents for The Washington Post, TIME magazine, The Atlantic, The Sunday Times of London, Foreign Affairs, and many other publications. She has been awarded the United Nations Correspondents' Association Gold Medal, Journalist of the Year in 2004, National Press Club Award, the National Magazine Award, and the Overseas Press Club Award. She was also the recipient of a John D. and Catherine T. MacArthur Foundation grant.
Wright has been a television commentator on ABC, NBC, CBS, PBS, CNN, and MSNBC programs, including Nightline, Charlie Rose, Larry King Live, The Colbert Report, and Real Time. She is also the author of many books including, Dreams and Shadows: The Future of the Middle East, The Last Great Revolution: Turmoil and Transformation in Iran, and In the Name of God: The Khomeini Decade.
The Maverick Lecture is an annual event that honors the late Maury Maverick Jr., the legendary civil rights lawyer, former member of the Texas Legislature, former Marine, and iconoclastic newspaper columnist. It explores topics that defined Maverick's place in American civic discourse. These topics include threats to constitutional liberty, with particular emphasis on the First Amendment, issues of poverty and race, Western occupation of Third World Countries, and the moral requirements of war.
