Jeb Bush and Rudolph Giuliani to Speak at Trinity University
SAN ANTONIO - Jeb Bush, former governor of Florida, and Rudolph Giuliani, former Mayor of New York City during 9/11, will visit Trinity University this spring to present lectures to the campus and San Antonio communities. Both presentations are scheduled for 7:30 p.m. in Laurie Auditorium and are free and open to the public. Seating is on a first-come, first-seated basis and tickets or reservations are not required.
Bush will speak about "Leading in a Climate of Change" during the Flora Cameron Lecture on Politics and Public Affairs on March 22. "What the 2012 Elections Should be About" is Giuliani's topic for the Trinity University Distinguished Lecture on April 4.
Bush, the 43rd governor of Florida, is the son of former President George H.W. Bush and Barbara Bush and the brother of former President George W. Bush. As governor, Bush focused on reforming education. In addition, he cut taxes every year during his tenure, and Florida led the nation in job growth. Bush put Florida on the forefront of consumer healthcare advances by signing Medicaid reform legislation, "Empowered Care," in June 2006. He co-authored Profiles in Character, a book about 14 of Florida's civic heroes, people making a difference without claiming a single news headline. He is currently the head of his own consulting business, Jeb Bush and Associates, and is also the chairman of Foundation for Excellence in Education, a national foundation focused on education reform.
The Flora Cameron Lecture on Politics and Public Affairs is made possible by an endowment gift by Flora C. Crichton of San Antonio.
As mayor of New York City, Giuliani focused on reducing crime, reforming welfare, and improving the quality of life. On Sept. 11, 2001, having narrowly missed being crushed when the two towers of the World Trade Center fell, Giuliani immediately began leading the recovery of the city as it faced its darkest hour. He was named "Person of the Year" by TIME magazine, knighted by the Queen of England, and dubbed "Rudy the Rock" by French President Jacques Chirac. Former first lady Nancy Reagan also presented him with the Ronald Reagan Presidential Freedom Award. In 2002, Giuliani founded the professional services firm, Giuliani Partners, a leader in emergency preparedness, public safety, leadership during crises, and financial management. He is also a partner in the international law firm of Bracewell & Giuliani LLP, which employs more than 400 lawyers, serving mainly clients in the energy and financial service industries.
The Trinity University Distinguished Lecture Series is made possible by an endowment gift from Mr. and Mrs. Walter F. Brown of San Antonio.
