Trinity University Welcomes Wall Street Journal Bestselling Author for Leaders in Health Management Symposium

SAN ANTONIO - Quint Studer, a bestselling author and founder of the Studer Group, will be the keynote speaker at the Leaders in Health Management Symposium at 10 a.m. Friday, Oct. 28, in the Ruth Taylor Recital Hall on the Trinity University campus. The event is free and open to the public.

Studer's presentation will be based on ideas from his book, Straight A Leadership: Alignment, Action, Accountability (Fire Starter Publishing, 2009). The book teaches senior leaders how to create organizations that can execute swiftly and well in response to a rapidly shifting external environment.

"From time to time we bring an expert whose reach transcends a specific industry and we like to offer that person as an educational resource for the community," said Mary E. Stefl, professor and chair of Trinity's department of Health Care Administration (HCAD).  "Quint Studer is one of those experts. He is a deeply respected authority on leadership and performance improvement, and while his work has been centered in health care, it's a good model for many organizations."

Studer has written five books, two of which are bestsellers, and has a sixth one in-progress. His first book, BusinessWeek bestseller Hardwiring Excellence was a top selling leadership book   written for healthcare. His second book is 101 Answers to Questions Leaders Ask. Another publication - Results that Last - hit the Wall Street Journal's bestseller list of business books. His upcoming title is expected to be published in the Spring of 2012, as his first book for employees at all levels.

Studer spent 10 years working with special needs children before entering the healthcare industry in 1984 as a community relations representative. From then until he founded Studer Group in 2000, he has held multiple leadership positions in a number of organizations and as president of Baptist Hospital in Pensacola, Fla.

Studer Group implements evidence-based leadership systems that help clients attain and sustain outstanding results in more than 700 hospitals and organizations across the U.S. Together, they serve as a "national learning lab" in which best practices are harvested, tested, refined, and shared with all health care organizations through peer-reviewed journal articles, Studer Group publications, and products designed to accelerate change.

The event is sponsored by the HCAD's Center for Leadership Development in Health Management. The Center prepares future leaders in health care management with an emphasis on the integration of conceptual and experiential learning. St. David's Health Care in Austin, Texas, also is supporting the event.
