Trinity Economics Majors Catapult University Into Top Ranking
Question: When is Trinity University mentioned in the same breath as Princeton University and the Massachusetts Institute of Technology?
Answer: When the three schools are ranked in the top 10 schools with economics majors who graduate and ultimately earn a doctorate. This fact is highlighted in the Fall 2007 issue of the Journal of Economic Education, and the statistical equalizer is the number of eventual PhDs earned per 1,000 undergraduate degrees awarded. John Huston, professor and chair of economics at Trinity, noted that the University also "looks good" with other liberal arts schools in the ranking - starting with Swarthmore College at the No. 1 spot, followed by Agnes Scott, Grinnell, Carleton, and Williams Colleges. Next was Harvard University and Macalester College. Princeton was ranked No. 8; Trinity, No. 9, and MIT was No. 10. The No. 11 spot went to Stanford University and Yale University made the No. 12 spot. Good company, indeed.
