Trinity student Allyson Ducey looks at a visualization of data from a simulation of the edge of Saturn's Keeler gap, shortly after the material has passed by the gap moon Daphnis. Ducey worked with computer science professor Mark Lewis as part of the Trinity University Summer Undergraduate Research Program.

At Trinity, we acknowledge the extreme diversity of computer science. Through our rigorous and diverse degree tracks, we provide students with the knowledge and tools to be successful in applying computing in any number of settings in business, industry, and government. We also have created an environment of principles and theoretical understanding so our students are highly successful in furthering their scientific studies in graduate schools.

Our faculty interests include large-scale scientific/astronomical simulations, advanced graphics, A.I. with an emphasis on multi-agent systems, parallel computing, and various sub-areas of theoretical computer science. Faculty and students collaborate on research with other departments in the sciences and social sciences, and many of our students obtain summer internships or participate in federally funded Research Experiences for Undergraduates (REU) at other schools or within our own department.

Our computing facilities are state of the art, and a high percentage of our majors participate in genuine research under the supervision of the faculty. Many of our students graduate with one or more publications, some at undergraduate venues, some at professional, refereed journals and conferences. Other students participate in major software development projects.

Our department also is highly involved in the interdisciplinary minors on campus, including cognitive science, linguistics, and new media. Additionally, we offer computing as a second major, a very innovative track for those students who want to major in another field of their primary emphasis, but who also want an actual computer science major to complement the interests in their primary discipline.

Professor Yu Zhang

Artificial Intelligence – the Real Deal

Yu Zhang is the first to admit that artificial intelligence can be very exciting in the movies, but what makes it attractive to her is how scientists are using computers and artificial intelligence to simulate and study real world social trends.
