Professor Jennifer Mathews uncovers surprising history of chicle and chewing gum industry
The William H. Bell Athletic Center is a 185,215 square foot facility that was dedicated in 1992 and stands as the center of Trinity's athletic complex. It houses two performance gymnasiums, the Hixon Natatorium, several racquetball and squash courts, an aerobic fitness center, weight room, and a dance studio. In addition, the facility boasts spacious locker rooms and a state-of-the-art athletic training room. All Trinity students and faculty members are allowed access to these facilities.
The football and track & field teams play at Trinity University Stadium, located on Trinity's campus. Both the soccer and softball fields are located within the Jesse H. Jones Recreation Area, which also includes Meadows Pavilion and a jogging trail. The baseball team plays at Trinity University Baseball Field, which is nestled comfortably in the middle of Trinity's lower campus. The tennis teams play at Delavan Tennis Stadium and at the Varsity Tennis Stadium for larger events, while the Pittman Tennis Courts are used primarily for recreation. The Mabry Tennis Pavilion, added in 2007 to the Delavan Tennis Stadium, enhanced the courts with a press box, covered seating, and new stadium lights in tribute to the "Father of Trinity Tennis," Clarence Mabry.
The outdoor swimming pool is a 50-meter facility that is used both for recreation and training for the Tiger swimming & diving teams. Other outdoor facilities include the Intramurals Field, which is used for intramurals and recreation, as well as numerous Trinity club teams.
The soccer field was renovated in the summer of 2006, expanding the length and width of the field, and included the installation of new 70-foot lighting poles to bring the field to television broadcast quality standards. Additionally, the Stumberg Fitness Center, Trinity's weight room, recently underwent a 100 percent replacement of equipment.
